- What is www.PlanetMVS.com?
This is a non-profit web site that is dedicated to helping people use the MVS
aka z/OS operating systems. It is a "fan" site of IBM mainframes in general.
- Who runs www.PlanetMVS.com?
David Alcock
See my Frequently Asked Questions about Dave
- Shouldn't it be called Planet z/OS?
I'm set in my ways, besides: I grew up wanting to be a
MVS systems programmer. And not only that,
they keep changing the name,
I'll stay with the "generic" name of MVS.
- Isn't it narcissistic to call it Planet MVS?
You know, if I did identify with a Greek Mythological figure,
it wouldn't be Narcissus...
Who would it be?
Zeus!
Okay, I stole that from a Woody Allen movie
- Who did you write these pages for?
The Planet MVS web site was written for a target audience of people
that use the z/OS operating system on an IBM mainframe.
Other users of IBM mainframes may derive some
benefit but that would be purely unintentional.
- I mis-read or mis-used something from the www.PlanetMVS.com web site
and it caused me untold grief and suffering,
can I sue your pants off?
The
www.PlanetMVS.com web site
IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND WITHOUT ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES,
INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTIBILITY
AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

- Why all the dinosaurs on the www.PlanetMVS.com web site?
The mainframe was called a dinosaur after Personal Computers arrived. Some were saying the
mainframe was going to die out. Along the way IBM
added Unix, TCP/IP, web servers, cloud services and now the mainframe is one of the many servers
you might have at your company. IBM mainframes are stronger than ever.
- Who is the small bust of on the main Planet MVS web page "Sgt. Pepper's" image?

Fred Brooks - project leader of the System/360. Well that's what ChatGPT created when I gave it a picture of Mr. Brooks.
Naturally I also have a nod to Gene Amdahl - the System/360's chief architect.
- I see an error, misspelling, broken link, etc. on one of your pages, will you be
offended if I point it out?
No, please send any corrections, suggestions, etc. See the
contact page.
